Welcome to Holland Pilates. I am Natalie…wife to a wonderful man…mom to 3 great girls, two dogs & some fish…cancer survivor…lover of life. I enjoy teaching, reading, exercising, hiking, biking, running, painting, traveling, and learning. My favorite thing to do is laugh. I hold a BS in Nutrition and Dietetics from Auburn University….Warrrrr Eagle! My Master’s degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in Composite Science was earned at Jacksonville State University. I spent one year as a Nutritionist for the Head Start Program, then I taught high school science for a decade…biology…chemistry…zoology…botany…physical science…environmental science…whatever they threw my way. Working with teenagers was an invaluable experience! I learned as much as I taught. Truth be told, I probably learned more. My love for both teaching and healthy living coupled with a desire for a change of pace is what led me to teach Pilates.
I fell in love with Pilates the first time I tried it, and soon decided that I would become trained to teach. Not far into my training, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My treatment included bilateral mastectomies, several reconstructive surgeries, hysterectomy, oophorectomy, and chemotherapy. I will forever be grateful that I discovered Pilates before my diagnosis as it has proven to be a paramount, integral part of my recovery. The physical part of recovery is always a work in motion…things to tweak…motions to improve…boundaries to push. Of course, I would feel the same if I had nothing from which to recover. I simply love going after challenges. For me, motion takes care of emotion as well. Cancer or no cancer, Pilates would be an inherent part of my daily life. It was Joseph Pilates himself who said, “The acquirement and enjoyment of physical well-being, mental calm, and spiritual peace are priceless to their possessors if there be any such so fortunate living among us today.” I could not agree more.
My Pilates training has been through Balanced Body. The Balanced Body Pilates instructor training program is designed to create thoughtful, creative and successful Pilates teachers. Their curriculum emphasizes the principles underlying each exercise.
I would be remiss if I lead you to believe that Pilates alone can make someone into an entirely fit person. Proper nutrition and rest each play a vital role in the quest for fitness and overall health. One who makes wise choices with respect to diet, exposure to toxins in the environment, rest, and exercise is without a doubt taking the very best preventative medicines abundantly provided by nature. And oh how an ounce of prevention is worth that pound of cure! Speaking of the wonder of nature…it is amazing how it provides us with bountiful nutrition through food…and the healing it can provide through the stupendousness of therapeutic grade essential oils is incredible. If you find yourself interested in learning more about essential oils, please take a look at the link for them on the home page.
